What are medical keyboards?
Medical keyboards, such as keyboards made of glass, are antibacterial and disinfectable keyboards specially made for clinics or practices. They can be used just as easily with medical gloves as with bare hands and can be disinfected effortlessly. This is due, on the one hand, to the special materials from which a sealed keyboard is made (such as silicone or glass) and, on the other hand, to its surface, which has been specially optimized for the practice or hospital. A conventional keyboard, with its grooves and gaps, offers plenty of collecting space for dirt, bacteria and germs. A glass keyboard does not have this potential for danger because, when viewed from above, it has a completely smooth work surface that is particularly easy to clean. Doctors often have to carry out a search query on the PC or go through a digital file when talking to patients; with glass keyboards, this can also be done comfortably with medical gloves.
Where does a glass keyboard make the most sense?
Glass keyboards are becoming more and more common, particularly in doctor's offices, laboratories or hospitals. In principle, the use of these special glass keyboards makes sense wherever the use of medicine is involved. Glass keyboards are more hygienic than traditional keyboards and offer some very practical additional functions that can be particularly beneficial for medical staff. All of our products are suitable for everyday medical use and take into account the special needs and challenges that can arise for doctors and medical staff.
What does a glass keyboard do?
A waterproof and antibacterial keyboard made of glass has numerous additional functions that make it particularly special. For example, the HospiTouch medical glass keyboard has a key lock function, which makes it much easier to clean the keyboard safely and also has a smooth, liquid- and dust-resistant surface. This disinfectable glass keyboard is therefore ideal for sterile environments, such as an operating room. The touch sensitivity can be adjusted in 4 levels and acoustic feedback can also be set up if necessary. Glass keyboards should also be acid and sweat-resistant in order to withstand everyday clinical use, like the HospiTouch glass keyboard. Just like the “Megasept touch Glass” keyboard, the keypad on the HospiTouch can be converted into a touchpad if necessary. All common operating systems are supported and regular updates can be obtained. Some glass keyboards can also be purchased in black and white to better match the medical environment.
Germ-free thanks to glass
Glass keyboards are not only easier to clean than conventional keyboards and therefore remain germ-free for longer. They are also low in germs, as required in medicine. Through regular use, their surfaces are not attacked and scratched as quickly as keyboards in private households. This means that bacteria collect less quickly. They can also be used with wet hands (e.g. from washing or disinfectants) without causing any problems. The glass surface does not give the liquid a chance to penetrate the electronics of the glass keyboard, but simply repels it. This means that the keyboard can then be easily cleaned with a cloth and no damage will be left behind.
Glass keyboards as a solution for doctor's offices and hospitals
Modern keyboards made of glass are particularly suitable for medicine because they can also be connected to the computer via Bluetooth or WLAN. A doctor's desk in particular often contains numerous important utensils and equipment. The fewer cables there are between these things, the tidier and more professional the desk or work surface looks. This is important for a good first impression. This means that the keyboard can be easily moved back and forth on the table if necessary, without creating a huge mess of cables and electronics.
